Senators think a lot of themselves, and perhaps with some legitimate reason. After all, they were elected by a majority of the local yokels in their state to represent their interests in Congress. It’s kind of a big deal. Unfortunately, the reality of the day-to-day job of Senators, particularly those with further political aspirations, has very little to do with representing the people who voted for them, most of whom forget about what their representatives are doing about 5 minutes after election results are in.
Congressional Republicans have despised President Obama since he was first elected and as the opposition party, they are supposed to oppose. However, opposition doesn’t mean loathsome, vile, fraudulent and now treasonous actions. For 6 years we have endured an unending campaign of vitriolic abuse of the first black President of the United States (and one can only wonder if that fact underlies any of the passionate opposition we see) and it may have just culminated in an act of treason.
Senate Republicans have taken it upon themselves to write a rather condescending letter to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s leadership, under the guise of educating them on our system of government. What they are actually doing is sabotaging negotiations between not just the United States and Iran, but also our partners in this endeavor: China, France, Germany, Russia and the United Kingdom, who are trying to find a way to keep messianic religious leaders from obtaining an apocalyptic weapon. They’ve essentially told the Iranian leadership that our President will be out of office soon–ironically, they give the Iranians an exact timetable for his withdrawal–and that many of the Senators will be in office for a long fucking time. If the Iranians come to an agreement with President Obama, and perhaps the world is saved from the parties of God having weapons of mass destruction for at least the time being, the Republicans want Iran to know that Congress can modify that deal at any time, and that the next President can wipe it out with the stroke of a Bic pen. They pimp themselves out to the be the actual source of power in the United States; these hacks who were voted into office by a minority of the electorate in their apathetic little states. I mean the first signature on the treasonous piece of trash was Tom Cotton, Junior Senator from Arkansas. Fucking Arkansas! The only appropriate way to deal with the self-righteous pricks who signed this letter is to try them for Treason. Should they be found guilty, the punishment suits the crime:
“Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.”
